Flagyl side effects

Flagyl antibiotic is the medicine which is taken to kill bacteria in the body; it does not allow the bacteria to reproduce in the body. Flagyl helps the body to clear the infection out and induce the body to provide its own immune defense to get rid of the bacterial disease. For some categories of patients the use of antibiotics may be contraindicated.

For instance, pregnant women should not use Flagyl during their first trimester. If you are pregnant it is necessary to consult your doctor about the use of any medicine including antibiotics.

Often antibiotics including Flagyl are not used in women who are breast –feeding a baby. As some of them can enter the breast milk and harm the baby, the consultation with a doctor is essential. Some health conditions may not allow a patient to use Flagyl. They include serious kidney or liver diseases.

Flagyl may cause several side effects in generally healthy patients. It is necessary to inform your doctor about any negative side effects related to Flagyl use. The common side effects of Flagyl include: • stomach pain, • diarrhea, • dizziness, • vaginal itching or discharge (in women); • dry mouth, • cough, sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, • swollen or sore tongue.

Some of the side effects caused by Flagyl may be serious and demand special medical care and attention. Allergic reactions of Flagyl that should be immediately helped are: hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the body parts such as face or neck.

Other serious side effects of Flagyl include: • white patches or sores in the mouth; • pain or burning during urination; • watery or bloody diarrhea; • vision problems; • tremor; • muscle twitching, seizure; • fever, muscle pain; • confusion; • headache; • sore throat; • drowsiness; • nausea or vomiting; • skin reactions; • others. To avoid any side effects, you should follow the doctor’s recommendations of Flagyl use and never overdose this medicine.
